dog kisses at doghouse An abundance of fire hydrants. Water fountains just off the ground. It’s a dog’s dream now available at three city parks: Pearsall Park, 4700 Old Pearsall Road, completed McAllister Park dog park, 13102 Jones-Maltsberger, and the dog park in the newly completed and opened Hardberger Park, 13203 Blanco Road.

The newest dog park is also the largest at 1.8 acres. It features an area for small dogs and one for large dogs. The small dog area comes complete with an enormous two story doghouse donated by Lisa Hinson and her family.

The hours at this dog park coincide with that of the overall park, which are 7:30 a.m. to sunset, seven days a week.

The McAllister Park dog park is located near the Starcrest entrance to McAllister. It consists of approximately 1.5 acres of fenced land with exercise equipment, a covered picnic area, benches, and a walking trail.

Pearsall Park's dog park is comprised of one and one-half acres. Bright greens, reds and yellows make the fenced-in area stand-out with picnic tables and trash cans as well as play features. Even the fence and the park toilet enclosures sport a “dog paw” design.

These two parks are open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. The park curfew is in effect after 11 p.m.

Dogs are allowed on-leash at other city parks, with the exception of the natural area parks, where no pets are allowed.
