San Antonio Healthy Start is a program dedicated to ensuring that the nation's most vulnerable women and families are receiving high quality services and resources for healthy pregnancies and healthy births. The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District launched the program in March 2002. Healthy Start assists pregnant women and their families to get the care they need to improve birth outcomes. The program provides home visitation services until the baby turns two years of age. Program components are Case Management, Outreach, Health Education, Depression Screening & Referral.

Although Healthy Start services the entire San Antonio community, the Healthy Start case management and outreach teams focus their efforts in the Bexar County areas that have the highest infant mortality rates.
