As part of Inspections Section of the DSD Building Development Division, the Electrical Inspections Team is focused on refining a combination of traits and associated technical training and experience that serve to qualify us in the profession of electrical inspection.

Our commitment is to produce an electrical inspector that is professional in both conduct and performance. We feel that this commitment is vital to protecting our citizens from hazards arising from the installation and use of electricity.

The electrical inspections supervisor is responsible for staff’s quality performance on a number of key functions and processes within DSD on behalf of our community. Our primary responsibility is to review electrical installations for compliance with adopted codes such as Chapter 10 of City Code and the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Additional key functions of our team include:

  •  Regulating electricians and electrical construction within the City of San Antonio by issuing violation notices and creating court cases as needed.

  • Serving as primary point of contacts for customer and contractor questions regarding electrical.

  • Investigating customer complaints and allegations of unsafe electrical installations and conditions.

  • Coordinating with CPS Energy on releases of electrical service following fires or other instances which may require authorization from DSD.

  • Keeping current on new code changes and technology such as photovoltaic systems and then working with our industry in implementing them smoothly.

  • Serving as primary staff support for the Electrical Board.
